XPedite5200: PMC/XMC Freescale MPC8548E Platform
| July 1, 2008: Extreme Engineering Solutions introduces the XPedite5200, a PrPMC that supports legacy PCI-based systems and newer serial fabric-based requirements. The XPedite5200 is centered around the Freescale MPC8548E PowerQUICC III device. The card comes standard with PCI-X support, and may optionally be configured for PCI Express or Serial Rapid I/O support via an XMC connector. Multiple I/O options provide the system designer with legacy support while gaining the benefits of newly evolving system component interconnects.

Features
| The XPedite5200 combines the Freescale MPC8548E with industry standards PMC and XMC supporting dual front-panel Gigabit Ethernet and a single RS-232 serial port. This unique product provides up to a whopping 4 GB of DDR2 SDRAM on a single mezzanine, 256 MB of NOR flash, 4 GB of NAND flash, and four Gigabit Ethernet ports (with P14 I/O) coupled with PMC and XMC interconnect.

Flexibility
| “Utilizing the MPC8548E's comprehensive I/O including PCI, PCI-X and PCI Express support allows users an I/O interconnect upgrade path from PMC to XMC without sacrificing software compatibility,” states Aaron Lindner, Engineering Manager for X-ES. “Offerings of 1 GB to 4 GB of DDR2 SDRAM memory coupled with a 1.33-GHz e500 processor core can satisfy a system designer’s voracious performance appetite in a 10-Watt solution,” Lindner added.
XPedite5200 offers x8 PCI Express or x4 PCI Express on XMC lanes 0-3 and x4 Serial Rapid I/O on XMC lanes 4-7, or target XPedite5203 for x4 Serial Rapid I/O on XMC lanes 0-3.
