RADAR and SONAR

RADAR and Sonar System Requirements

RADAR and SONAR systems need balanced combinations of signal processing and data processing. And they require an operating system that supports fully static memory management to avoid any memory overflow or memory fragmentation, as some systems have to run uninterrupted for years!

An ideal solution for RADAR and SONAR applications consists of a multi-processor or multi-core PowerPC board for the data processing and FPGA modules for the signal processing. Though we support all major Real Time operating systems on our processor boards, it looks like VxWorks is regarded as a standard RTOS for these kind of applications.

Here are some product recommendations for RADAR and SONAR systems:

Multi-processor and multi-core PowerPC boards for the data processing
FPGA modules for signal processing and filtering
High speed ADC modules for signal acquisition

Complete FPGA Processing Platform with StarFabric

FPGA Processing Platform with Altera Stratix II
Complete FPGA processing sub-system including high speed ADCs and DACs, Stratix II Processing FPGAs, StarFabric network, Single Board Computer and Rack.

FPGA Processing Platform Training

FPGA Processing Platform Training
As part of the delivery of the Complete FPGA Processing Platform, we will facilitate a five day training session on the demonstration platform. During the training, the customer will learn to use the platform and to access and modify the firmware reference design.

Using the most advanced Mentor™ tools, our technology partner Parsec designs FPGAs using VHDL. Their experience includes the design of large scale FPGAs in excess of 1 million gates. Parsec has completed FPGA designs using ALTERA, XILINX, and ACTEL devices. A well-proven FPGA development process focuses on the development of modular and maintainable designs. Extensive use of synchronous design techniques and simulation ensures that timing and routing requirements are met before hardware testing is attempted. Parsec's specialty includes the design of custom and standard bus interfaces, DSP and specialized processing functions into FPGAs.
